Ali Fazal has been open about his admiration for Sanjay Dutt right from the beginning of his career in acting. A true fan of the star, Ali was more than happy to be cast in a role much different than the ones he has done before. Interestingly, when offered the role in the Hindi remake, Ali did not even read the script of the film given by director, Dev Katta, before signing it.

A source said, "Ali only met Deva and the team once and he was ecstatic with the role offered to him. He only heard the main gist of the story and his role and was immediately on board".

Prasthaanam goes on floors on the occasion of Nargis Dutt's Birthday and will be produced by Sanjay Dutt Productions, marking Dutt's return to production after seven years.
