Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt's Daughter Shiloh Legally Drops 'Pitt' From Her Name
Shiloh's decision to remove her father’s last name was made public when she filed a petition in May, coinciding with her 18th birthday. The approval of this petition was finalised on August 19.

Shiloh Jolie, the daughter of Hollywood icons Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has officially been granted permission to legally change her last name. Shiloh has chosen to drop her father’s surname. The process was reportedly delayed due to an incomplete background check. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, both celebrated actors, share a diverse family of six children: Maddox, who is now 22, Zahara, aged 19, Pax, who is 20, Shiloh, who just turned 18 and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 15. The family has often been in the public eye, and each of their children’s lives has been a subject of interest and speculation.

Shiloh, born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, has now legally transitioned to being known as Shiloh Jolie. Shiloh’s decision to remove her father’s last name was made public when she filed a petition in May, coinciding with her 18th birthday. The approval of this petition was finalised on Monday, August 19, following the resolution of the delays caused by a clerical error that led to an incomplete background check. This error resulted in the hearing being postponed to a later date, informs ABC News.

Peter Levine, the attorney representing Shiloh, shed light on the situation, saying, “Everyone undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk, and because of clerical error, Shiloh’s hearing has been continued to a new date.”

According to ABC News, the legal procedures for changing one’s name in California are quite detailed. The state’s law requires that any individual seeking a name change must have the legal forms published in a newspaper for a full month before a judge can approve the petition. This publication serves as a formal announcement to the public and in Shiloh’s case, it was made in the Los Angeles Times. After this step is completed, the judge can finally authorise the name change.

Shortly after Shiloh filed the petition, reports emerged that Brad Pitt was indeed aware of his daughter’s intentions. According to a source close to the actor, he was “aware” and understandably affected by Shiloh’s decision to drop his last name. The source elaborated, saying, “He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them,” reported People.
