Janhvi Kapoor Feels People Are Too Hard On Their Parents: 'Everyone’s F**ked Up, Just Give Them Love'
Janhvi Kapoor said that as she grows up, she's feeling more like a mom, Sridevi, sometimes, especially towards her dad, Boney Kapoor.

As a child, actress Janhvi Kapoor was always afraid of losing her parents. Even small things like them going out for dinner or shopping without her made her worry. She would sometimes even check on them at night to make sure they were okay. Janhvi’s mom, the late Sridevi, passed away in 2018, and Janhvi still finds it hard to accept. But she said that she focuses on her work to cope with the loss.

Appearing on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Janhvi said, “It’s funny, but I was always paranoid about losing my parents, even at that age. Every time they’d go out at night for an event, or travel for a day without me… Even small things, like they’re shopping at duty free and I’ve boarded the plane with my nanny, I’d always be like, ‘They’re not going to board the flight, they’re not going to come back home’. I’d wake up at night and sometimes go into their room to check if they were breathing. There was a weird paranoia.”

Janhvi said that as she grows up, she’s feeling more like a mom sometimes, especially towards her dad. She believes in taking care of parents as they age, seeing it as an important tradition. Janhvi also said that she feels like it’s now her turn to support her dad emotionally, instead of the other way around and that she is “borderline obsessed” with him. “After a certain age, they become our kids. I know that I will give my father a lot more allowances to maybe not be there emotionally for me in a way that I assumed a father should be there, just because I know now it’s my time to be there for him.”

“I think we’re too hard on our parents. Everyone’s f**ked up because of their parents, no one has it right. But they’re also messed up because of their parents. No one has followed a handbook, so you need to forgive yourself and forgive them. Just give them love and be there,” she said.

On the work front, Janhvi Kapoor’s Mr & Mrs Mahi is set to release on May 31. Apart from Janhvi, the film also stars Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Rajesh Sharma, Kumud Mishra, Zarina Wahab and Purnendu Bhattacharya also have key roles. The film is backed by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta.
