Kit Harington’s role of Jon Snow in Game of Thrones is still one of the most-talked about characters in the entertainment arena. While filming for the show, the actor was dealing with substance abuse behind the scenes, checking into rehab in 2019 to combat addiction. Harington has now opened up on his health struggles in a conversation with GQ. The actor also revealed that he could not appreciate his success.
While speaking with GQ, Kit Harington said, “I was trying to project this image of utter sophistication and coolness about what I was doing but genuinely [was] sort of terrified about everything.” The actor has been sober for a while now and lives with his wife Rose Leslie and their children.
Recalling the time when Kit Harington felt that it was “physically and emotionally impossible” for him not to drink again, the actor said, “I was so lucky I got sober before having kids. Because before getting sober, I would stare in the mirror and call myself a c*nt. I’d hate myself. I would literally despise myself and not be proud of anything I’d done. I couldn’t be proud.”
“So the fact that I am proud of getting sober is in and of itself a mark of being an entirely different person. And now, every set I step onto, whatever work I do, I’m proud of, because I know I put everything into it, added Kit Harington.
Meanwhile, a Jon Snow spinoff series has been shelved as of now. The series was expected to mark Kit Harington’s return as the popular character.
Now, following the end of Game of Thrones, its prequel series titled House of the Dragon depicting the collapse of Targaaryen has been keeping fans entertained. Given its success, the makers are now planning to return with another spin-off show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The show is based on George RR Martin’s Dunk and Egg. The series is scheduled to be released in 2025.
