Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in the 2023 release Animal continues to generate buzz even months after its theatrical debut. While the actor’s portrayal of Ranvijay in the action-thriller has been met with both praise and criticism, his father-in-law, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, has weighed in on the ongoing discussion.
Addressing the mixed reactions to Ranbir’s character, Mahesh Bhatt shared his perspective, noting that public scrutiny is an inevitable aspect of the entertainment industry. In his candid take, Bhatt likened the industry to a “blood sport,” where the highs and lows of performers are constantly under the spotlight. He emphasised that when someone steps into this arena, they must be prepared for both applause and criticism.
“That’s also part of entertainment… It is a blood sport. You get into the arena and there will be people celebrating you falling down and there will be people celebrating you triumphing. So that’s a part of it,” he said, reflecting on the nature of fame and public perception.
Bhatt, who has seen the industry evolve over decades, acknowledged that Ranbir chose this path with full awareness of its challenges. He pointed out that while performers are few, most people are mere spectators, often quick to judge. “The world ultimately belongs to the creators,” Bhatt asserted, adding that it takes immense courage to be a performer. He also emphasised that criticism is an occupational hazard in this line of work. “You stand in the sun, you get sunburnt,” Bhatt concluded.
Recently, actor Arshad Warsi also shared his thoughts on Animal, praising both Ranbir Kapoor and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for creating what he described as a “masterpiece.” In a conversation on UNFILTERED by Samdish, Warsi expressed admiration for the unique world the filmmaker created, stating that it was unlike anything he had seen before.
As for Ranbir Kapoor, the actor is now gearing up for his next big role as Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The highly anticipated film also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Raavan, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. Filming commenced in March, with production in full swing in Mumbai. Veteran actress Indira Krishna has also confirmed her role as Kaushalya in this epic two-part film.
