Meenakshi Seshadri Wants To Make Friends In Bollywood, Reaches out To Jackie Shroff: 'He's Inviting Me'

Actress Meenakshi Seshadri is making a comeback and is keen on doing things differently this time. After getting married in 1995, she moved to the United States. Now, back in Mumbai, she wants to reconnect with old friends from the film industry, like Sangeeta Bijlani. In an interview with Zoom, the actress shared that when she returned to India, she reached out to her former co-star from Hero, Jackie Shroff, as he was the first person she contacted. Jackie warmly welcomed her back to Mumbai and often invited her to film events.

“He is one person I reached out to after coming back. He has been very sweet inviting me several times for events in Mumbai. Maybe he wants me to feel included and welcomed. That’s his unique quality. In my first innings, I didn’t really believe in making friends and hanging out with them but this time around I do. Another friend I want to meet is Sangeeta Bijlani,” she said.

The actor then discussed Hero, the 1983 film directed by Subhash Ghai, which made her and Jackie Shroff famous overnight. Despite their popularity as an on-screen pair, she regrets not being able to capture the same chemistry with Jackie in other films. “The success of Hero could not be repeated, because the few films Jackie and I did after that, the audience didn’t get what they wanted. They didn’t get that romance, the story of Jackie and Meenakshi. I feel bad about that, because with the right kind of films, him and I could have done some really nice movies together,” she said.

At the peak of her career, Meenakshi was also considered one of the toughest competitors for the actress Sridevi. It is because of her appealing looks and her dancing style. She is trained in many dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, and Odissi. She has also worked in Telugu cinema and gained a huge fanfare.

Later, Meenakshi married Harish Mysore in 1995, and they have a daughter and a son. Rajkumar Santoshi also found love and married Manila, with whom he has two children, Ram and Tanisha. Meenakshi and Rajkumar Santoshi first worked together in Ghayal (1990) and then collaborated again for Ghatak in 1996 after Damini.
