Mithun Chakraborty was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 70th National Film Awards.

Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 70th National Film Awards Ceremony. The prestigious award ceremony took place in Vigyan Bhavan and the honourable President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the awards. Mithun walked on stage to receive his award. The actor got emotional as he watched his showreel.

Mithun ensured he personally received the honour despite his fractured hand. The actor accepted the award and posed for a picture with the President on stage. He then addressed the audience and shared never-before-shared anecdotes.

Before the ceremony, Mithun Chakraborty confessed he hasn’t fully wrapped his head around the win. “What can I say? Such a great honor-I can only thank God. The struggles I faced, God has returned everything to me. I’m still processing it,” he said.

He also spoke to India Today Digital and said, “In my early years, money was a constant need for me; I had a huge family to look after, so it was definitely a huge criterion. But now, times have changed. I don’t think about such things anymore. I focus on doing a film that satisfies my creative side more than anything else.”

The news of Mithun Chakraborty winning the Dadasaheb Phalke Award comes just months after he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan. The ceremony took place in April and the actor was seen accepting the honour from President Droupadi Murmu.

Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut in 1977 and became one of the few actors who won a National Award with the debut film. The actor embarked on his acting journey with Mrigayaa and became a rage after his 1982 film Disco Dancer released. The film did phenomenal business across Asia, the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa. He also won the Best Actor National Award for Tahader Katha in 1993. In 1996, he won the Best Supporting Actor National Film Award for Swami Vivekananda.
