The trailer for the highly anticipated film Moana 2 has been released, teasing an exciting new chapter in the popular Disney franchise. The latest teaser for Moana 2, debuted at the D23 Expo in Anaheim on Friday, August 9. The storyline delves deeper into the mystery of communication from Moana’s ancestors and she strives to save her community. Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson return as the voice of Moana and Maui, respectively, in the sequel, which takes place three years after the events of the original 2016 film.
In the trailer, Moana takes on the role of big sister and guides her 3-year-old sibling Simea. As commander of the land and sea, she investigates surrounding islands for indications of other people and confronts a new, unknown opponent. The official logline mentions, “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced."
The makers have already shared a few posters and a teaser on Instagram. One of the posters depicts Moana standing fiercely on the ship as it sails through the sea, overseeing the exciting trip that lies ahead.

Moana 2 is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller. The animated film is being produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. The film is written by Jared Bush and Miller, with Jennifer Lee, Bush, and Johnson serving as executive producers. It features songs by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. Moana 2 is scheduled to be released in theatres on November 29.
Moana 2’s voice cast also includes Temuera Morrison as Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Fane as Kele, Hualālai Chung as Moni and Alan Tudyk as Heihei. The original Moana was a huge hit for Disney, generating more than USD 680 million worldwide, as per Variety. The film received two Oscar nominations, one for Best Animated Feature and the other for Best Original Song with “How Far I’ll Go." A live action feature film for Moana is also in works with Dwayne Johnson.
