Olivia Munn was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, and the actress underwent a rigorous treatment in the past few months. While on her recuperating journey, the actress has actively opened up about her diagnosis and the effects it had on her physical and mental health. Recently, in an interview, Olivia Munn shared that she underwent a full hysterectomy in April as she battled breast cancer.
In a conversation with Vogue, Olivia Munn said, “I have now had an oophorectomy and hysterectomy. I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.”The actress explained that the surgery which was performed last month, was an alternative to taking a cancer treatment that was causing her additional physical issues. She added, “It was a big decision to make, but it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family.”
Olivia Munn and her partner John Mulaney welcomed their son Malcom in 2021. The hysterectomy procedure would improve her quality of life, but it implies that it would prevent her from carrying any children in the future. The actress stated, “John and I talked about it a lot and we don’t feel like we’re done growing our family.” Olivia Munn had already frozen her eggs twice before and stated she went through another round of egg harvesting before having a hysterectomy in the hopes of creating an embryo for surrogacy. She mentioned, “It was just so exciting because not only did we get it in one retrieval, but it also meant that I didn’t have to keep putting myself at risk.” Olivia stated that her decision to undertake a rigorous treatment was also driven by the fact she wanted to be with her family. She stated, “I’m going to remember this, that I missed all these things. It’s his childhood, but it’s my motherhood, and I don’t want to miss any of these parts if I don’t have to.”
The actress first reported that she had been diagnosed with Luminal B breast cancer in March 2024. Olivia Munn was diagnosed with cancer in both breasts, and her treatment included a double mastectomy.
