Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin will delve into Dexter’s early years, exploring the origin of the darkness that shaped him into the killer we know.

The origin story of Dexter Morgan is finally here as the makers dropped the trailer for Dexter: Original Sin on September 12. Showtime’s latest offering will premiere on Paramount Plus this December 13, taking fans back to where it all began. While Dexter fans will be thrilled to hear that Michael C Hall returns as the iconic voice and inner monologue of Dexter, it’s Patrick Gibson who steps into the spotlight as the young, budding anti-hero. Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin will delve into Dexter’s early years, exploring the origin of the darkness that shaped him into the killer we know.

The synopsis reads, “When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness."

As a young kid, Dexter Morgan saw his mother being brutally murdered, which makes him develop neurotic tendencies. Adopted by Harry Morgan, he gets training to harness his inner demon to help Miami police eliminate the criminals invading the law.

In the journey, Dexter helps his father who provides him with a code, designed to hunt people. That’s not all. The code designed by Dexter’s father would also help him avoid being hunted down by authorities amid a new challenge. The prequel will feature the lead character working for the forensic team of the Miami Metro Police Department as an intern.

Dexter: Original Sin will reportedly have 10 episodes, helmed by Clyde Phillips. Clyde had also directed the first four seasons of the original Dexter series.

Currently filming in Los Angeles, the prequel is generating buzz with an exciting cast lineup. In addition to Patrick Gibson playing the young Dexter, Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey joins the series as Captain Aaron Spencer, head of Miami Metro Homicide, while Molly Brown takes on the role of Dexter’s sister, Deb.

The series will also feature talented names like Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, James Martinez, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Sarah Michelle Gellar.

The executive producers of Dexter: Original Sin are Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns, while Robert Lloyd Lewis is the producer. Additionally, Michael Lehmann came as the directing executive producer.
