Shahid Kapoor will be seen playing the lead role in upcoming sports-drama Jersey. It is a remake of the Telugu film of the same name which feature Nani in the lead role. Jersey follows the story of a retired cricketer who makes a comeback to the sports in his late 30s.
At the recently announced 67th National Film Awards, Jersey bagged two honours– Best Telugu Film and Best Editing. Congratulating the Jersey team on the wins, Shahid shared the movie poster and wrote, “Huge congratulations to the entire team. Thanks for the extra pressure.”
Nani posted a picture of himself with director Gowtam Tinnanuri on Instagram account and captioned it: “#NationalAwards2019”.
The Hindi remake of Jersey will be releasing in cinemas in Diwali later this year. The Hindi version is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who had also helmed the 2019 original. It also stars Mrunal Thakur.
The story is about a talented but failed cricketer named Arjun, who decides to make a comeback in his late thirties and play for India, in order to fulfil his son’s wish.
