The wait is finally over. The Showsha Reel Awards 2024 nominations are officially out. The year 2023 was a great year for actors as they got a platform and meaty roles to showcase their craft. We witnessed some interesting performances by the leading stars and the supporting cast. Today, we take a look at the actresses who delivered memorable performances in the supporting role and bagged a nomination at the Showsha Reel Awards 2024. Take a look:
Churni Ganguly in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani: A celebrated Bengali actress and director with a National Award in her kitty, Churni Ganguly won hearts with her portrayal of an intellectual and snooty Bengali character, Alia Bhatt’s mom in the film, Anjali Chatterjee. The actress received rave reviews for her portrayal.
Dimple Kapadia in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar/Pathaan: Veteran actress Dimple Kapadia had two memorable performances on the big screen last year. On one hand, we saw her play a strong, authoritative figure in Pathaan and on the other side, we saw her double up as a soft, fun motherly character in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The veteran actress impressed everyone with her effortless acting in both films.
Shabana Azmi in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani: She played Jamini Chatterjee, Rani’s grandmother, in the Karan Johar directorial and became the talk of the town, once again. Her nuanced performance won the film rave reviews. At 73, Shabana Azmi, celebrated as one of India’s most outstanding actors, continues to charm audiences.
Konkona Sensharma in Kuttey: She played Naxal leader Laxmi in debutant director Aasman Bharadwaj’s Kuttey. She played the radical Naxalite insurgent, who has been violated many times over and imprisoned, with utmost conviction. Her stony, but impactful presence in the film added to the film’s narrative in a way only an actress of her caliber can.
Jaya Bachchan in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani: She played Dhanalakshmi Randhawa, Rocky Randhawa’s (Ranveer Singh) grandmother and the founder of Dhanalakshmi Sweets in Karan Johar’s hit 2023 offering. Her portrayal of a scorned woman who’s also a businesswoman and the matriarch of her family, won her a lot of praise. Besides, her priceless expressions in the film made it to pop culture sparking a meme fest.
Triptii Dimri in Animal: She became the “national crush” overnight as Animal ravaged through the box office and “bhabhi 2” – that is – Zoya in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s revenge drama, Animal. From pulling off emotionally vulnerable scenes to bold ones that had everyone talking, Triptii Dimri’s performance in the film was nothing short of flawless. Needless to say, the portrayal has fetched her a nomination in the supporting actress category.
