Shraddha Kapoor followed in her father Shakti Kapoor’s footsteps and built an impressive career in films. Her most recent film, Stree 2, is a testament to her star power, and the 37-year-old actress credits it all to her father. In an interview, Shraddha Kapoor spoke about the struggles that Shakti Kapoor underwent once he landed in Mumbai from Delhi.
“When people come up to me and say, ‘We are big fans of your father’, it’s another feeling altogether. My father didn’t come from a film family. He has come from Delhi, it’s his home. I have spent a large part of my childhood here,” said the Stree 2 actress while speaking at the NDTV World Summit in Delhi on October 21. She further talked about her father’s passion for acting and disclosed that her grandfather had asked the veteran actor to work in a travel agency, but he defied.
Shraddha added, “He had no background. He studied in an acting school after he told his parents that he wanted to be an actor. My grandfather had a clothing shop. He asked him to work in a travel agency. But he followed his heart. He pursued his dream.”
At the event, the 37-year-old highlighted her father’s determination and recalled that he would knock at specific director’s houses dressed up as characters he wanted to play. “My father would land up at specific directors’ houses he wanted to work with even though the security was not letting him go up. He would dress up in the part he wanted to play and go to directors’ houses to convince them. That’s how he was cast.” She added that her father’s hard work had motivated her to keep her head down and said that she was grateful to him for the opportunities that came her way.
Sharing that her father would ask her about her shoots every now and then, Shraddha mentioned, “From time to time, he inquires about my shoots. I ask him before I sign a film. I have tremendous respect for him. He’s someone who made from the scratch. His stories are always inspiring.”
Speaking of her professional front, Shraddha, along with Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi and Aparshakti Khurrana, starred in the biggest film of 2024, Stree 2, a sequel to the 2018 supernatural horror comedy Stree. According to a report by Sacnilk, the Amar Kaushik-directed film has earned over Rs 856 crore. Before Stree 2, Shraddha was seen in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar in 2023, acting alongside Ranbir Kapoor.
