Kurtwood Smith announced that Netflix has decided not to move forward with Season 3 of That '90s Show.

Kurtwood Smith has shared some disappointing news regarding the future of That ’90s Show. In a recent Instagram post, the veteran actor announced that Netflix has decided not to move forward with Season 3 and cancelled the series after just two seasons. This decision has left many fans disheartened, as the show, a sequel of the beloved That ’70s Show, had a loyal following. Smith thanked the audience for their support and hinted that he would pitch the series to other networks. Unfortunately, the show struggled to attract viewers on Netflix, which became the main reason behind its cancellation, as per Deadline.

The veteran star wrote, “I know you have been asking me when season 3 is coming, but I have tough news. Netflix will not be renewing. I just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of the fans everywhere who supported and watched the show. You have come up to me in random parts of the world when I’m traveling and reached out to me through social media and just been so wonderful. I’ve loved every minute of getting to bring Grandpa Red to life for you all. I’ve said it before but it’s worth mentioning again, this show had so much heart behind it and the most wonderful cast, writers, directors, producers and crew an actor could hope to work with.”

Kurtwood Smith thanked the audience for giving him the chance to bring characters like Red and Kitty, along with their granddaughter and her friends, back to life for two seasons. He also thanked viewers for supporting the show and enjoying the performances of the original cast as well as the new guest stars. He mentioned that they won’t give up easily and will be looking for another network who might want to continue the show. Smith added they will work hard to ensure the show keeps entertaining fans and helps kids graduate from high school.

That ’90s Show is set 15 years after the original series, That ’70s Show. The plot follows Eric and Donna’s daughter, played by Callie Haverda, as she spends her summer with her grandparents and new friends in Point Place. The cast also includes Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi and Sam Morelos. Apart from Kurtwood Smith, the show even brought back beloved actors such as Debra Jo Rupp, Topher Grace, Wilmer Valderrama, Laura Prepon, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.
