The terrifying face is set to return and haunt the children of Derry, with Bill Skarsgard reprising his role in the It prequel series. Titled Welcome to Derry, the first teaser for the highly anticipated prequel has been released, offering brief glimpses of what fans can expect in the town of Derry. The teaser, while not providing extensive narration, uses a simple voiceover to remind viewers, “This ain’t America – This is Derry.”
In the teaser, Skarsgard’s Pennywise the Clown is nowhere to be seen, but the six seconds of footage manage to set a tone that’s not for the faint-hearted. Also, there is a good view of the town alongside a group of terrified people, some covered in blood and some type of goo. There’s also an older child with a creepy smile that just doesn’t go unnoticed.
Notably, the show serves as a prequel to the recent It films by Andy Muschietti. Earlier, it was said that Skarsgard wouldn’t be returning as Pennywise, but he is eventually back as the iconic clown.

The 2017 It originally set the stage for Stephen King’s beloved novel, which was further explored in its sequel, It Chapter Two, in 2019. Despite the defeat of Pennywise, several questions remain unanswered, especially about the town’s history and the menacing clown’s age-old relationship with Derry.
The makers will focus more on the events that took place before the disappearances in 2017. Welcome to Derry will be set in the 1960s, with a release date expected in 2025. The filming for the series was recently wrapped, confirmed showrunner Jason Fuchs on Instagram. Including an image of his production chair from the sets along with the iconic image of the red balloon. “237 shoot days later… That is a picture wrap on this season of “Welcome to Derry.” Surreal. What a ride. Can’t wait for you to see this thing,” he wrote.

The show has been rebranded from a Max exclusive to HBO Originals. Promising to be as horrifying as Warner Bros.’s films, director Osei-Kuffour stated that the show will be more “character-driven” and that his experience has been “deep and fulfilling,” as quoted by CBR.
