Anupam Kher Reveals Comedy Films Doesn't 'Excite' Him, Says 'Need To Keep Challenging Myself'
Anupam Kher got candid about his absence from comedy films and his involvement in serious films.

Anupam Kher, a highly experienced actor with a remarkable career spanning decades, continues to captivate audiences with his unparalleled performances in both Hindi and other regional language films. With a discerning eye for selecting projects, he consistently offers fresh and engaging content to his fans. The actor who is equally capable of acing serious roles has done fair share of comedy films in his career like Apna Sapna Money Money, Kya Superkool Hai Hum, Khosla Ka Ghosla under his credit. However, in his own words, comedy doesn’t ‘excite’ him.

While speaking with Indian Express, the Kashmir Files actor explained, “I have enjoyed doing mindless comedies, and I love them. I did a film recently called Shiv Shastri Balboa, which is now on one of the OTT platforms. It is like a comedy. As my mind keeps maturing, I also need to keep challenging myself. I need to feel excited. Now comedy doesn’t excite me.”

He added, “Today when I watch my work in films like Haseena Maan Jaayegi, I wonder, ‘Kaise kiya maine yeh? (How did I do it?).’ I feel the same when I see my other films as well, like Shola Aur Shabnam, Ram Lakhan. These were great movies to be a part of, and they are great performances. Films like Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahi, Beta. Doing this (comedy) is very difficult, especially when you are a trained actor, and you have read Stanislavsky (Constantin Stanislavsky) and Berthold Brecht and then to do that, I think it really needs guts and also talent.”

“But I like to do what is being made now; it is good. It is interesting, so I am enjoying doing it. It is my personal growth. But it doesn’t mean that I will not do that kind of comedy. Something very juicy has not come to me as yet. When it does, I’ll be very happy to do it. My natural flair for comedy is much more than any other serious roles,” the actor concluded.

In the meantime, Anupam Kher has a slew of interesting projects coming up. Quite recently, he made an exciting announcement via his social media platform, offering a sneak peek of his appearance in an upcoming Candian film. Anupam Kher is set to take on a significant role in Eisha Marjara’s eagerly awaited film titled Calorie. The film will explore the life and experiences of a Sikh-Canadian family.
