Gauri Khan Says Her Brother Threatened To Bash SRK Up Before Marriage: 'Shah Rukh Would Just Nod...'

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri faced problems with Gauri’s family before getting married on October 25, 1991. Gauri’s family, who were traditional Hindus, didn’t like the idea of her marrying a Muslim. They thought Shah Rukh wasn’t serious about their relationship and was just fooling their inexperienced daughter. Gauri’s brother Vikrant really disliked Shah Rukh and even talked about wanting to harm him whenever he saw him. In a 1994 interview with Filmfare, Gauri mentioned that Vikrant strongly disliked Shah Rukh and felt upset whenever he was around. “He’s (Vikrant) a very cool, laid-back guy but whenever he saw Shah Rukh he saw red. He was very possessive about me and he had murder on his mind every time he caught Shah Rukh looking at me,” revealed Gauri.
Even though Vikrant, who was just a bit older than Gauri, would threaten to fight Shah Rukh if he hung out with his sister, Shah Rukh didn’t react. Shah Rukh saw Vikrant as Gauri’s brother, so he would just nod and say, “Sure, whatever you say”. “He’d scream, ‘I’ll beat you to pulp, I’ll bash you up.’ The threats must have irritated Shah Rukh no end, but since he was my brother Shah Rukh would just nod and say, ‘Yeah, yeah whatever you say’,” Gauri shared during the interview.
Gauri mentioned that it was okay for her brother to have a girlfriend in 12th grade, but she wasn’t allowed to like a boy when she was in 9th grade. Eventually, Shah Rukh and Vikrant patched things up, and Vikrant even joined in the celebration of his sister’s wedding. Gauri was only 22 when she married 26-year-old Shah Rukh. Even though Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan had different religious backgrounds, they made sure to respect and celebrate both. They often talked about raising their three children—Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam — in a way that appreciated both religions. They got married in 1991.
