Popular Korean content channel, tvN has resealed images and a video from the script reading session for its upcoming historical drama Sejak on its YouTube channel. Sejak is a romantic fiction drama, scripted by Kim Sun Deok, who also wrote tvN’s The Crowned Clown. The upcoming drama’s narrative revolves around the love story of King Yi In, facing troubles from royal and political power struggles, and Kang Hee Soo, seeking revenge by attempting to seduce the King but finds herself enchanted instead. The recently released glimpse of the script reading session shows many prominent faces from the upcoming show’s cast and extended team.
Director Jo Nam Gook and writer Kim Sun Deok led the script reading, attended by cast members Jo Jung Suk, Shin Se Kyung, Lee Shin Young, Park Ye Young, Son Hyun Joo, Choi Dae Hoon, Jo Sung Ha, Lee Kyu Hoe, Yang Kyung Won, Jang Young Nam, Ahn Si Ha, Kang Hong Seok, Na Hyun Woo, Han Dong Hee and Song Sang Eun.
As evident in the video, the actors immersed themselves in their roles during the script reading, with Jo Jung Suk effectively portraying the complex journey of King Yi In, from crown prince to king, grappling with trust issues.
Shin Se Kyung adeptly depicted the contrasting personas of strong-willed Kang Hee Soo and gambler Kang Mong Woo without relying on costumes.
Lee Shin Young, 25, in his first historical drama role, delivered a standout performance as Kim Myung Ha, an admirer of Kang Hee Soo, while Park Ye Young created tension as court lady Dong, shrouded in secrecy. Son Hyun Joo, as Kang Hee Soo’s father Kang Hang Soon, conveyed a strong aura with his composed tone, and Jo Sung Ha, portraying Kim Jong Bae, the minister of military affairs, added weight to the palace power struggle with his cold voice.
Jang Young Nam, playing Queen Dowager Park, captured the character’s sassy personality through sharp speech and gaze. Jo Jung Suk expressed his excitement for the drama saying, “I became even more excited for the drama during the script reading," reports Soompi.
Meanwhile, Shin Se Kyung conveyed her growing anticipation during the script reading. “During the script reading, I felt the story come alive, and my anticipation for the drama grew even more. Please give ‘Sejak’ lots of anticipation, interest, and support," she said.
Sejak is set to premiere in January 2024. Meanwhile, take a look at the script reading session here:
