In less than 24 hours from now, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger 3 will be in theatres. While everyone is eagerly waiting for the movie, it has now been reported that the film has already sold over 15 lakh tickets in India. As reported by the industry tracker Sacnilk, Tiger 3 has sold 5.86 lakh tickets worth Rs 15.58 crores already across all languages and formats.
On Saturday, trade analyst Taran Adarsh also reported that Tiger 3 has sold 1.9 lakh tickets in national cinema chains like PVR, Inox and Cinepolis. However, it has failed to surpass Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Jawan, Prabhas’ Adipurush or Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 – which sold tickets ranging from 2.74 lakh to 5.57 lakh at the time of their release.
Tiger 3 will hit theatres on Diwali i.e. November 12 and is expected to rule the box office. It will be the first Hindi movie in more than a decade to release on the festival of Diwali since the film business takes a dip in evening shows. Recently, YRF VP of Distribution, Rohan Malhotra explained why they chose, what is otherwise considered as the ‘weakest day’, for the release of the Salman Khan starrer.
“I always believe that it is absolutely fine to do the conventional and there is no need to reinvent if there is no need for it. In this case, however, what came to our mind was that it is important for us not to look at the opening day numbers but to focus on what is eventually going to benefit, and in the case of ‘Tiger 3’, we definitely felt that going on Laxmi Puja day, which is considered the weakest day to release a film, would be a better fit for our film,” he told India Today.
Tiger 3 marks the third film in Yash Raj Films’ OG spy franchise. It is directed by Maneesh Sharma. While fans are eager to see Tiger and Zoya (played by Katrina Kaif) reunite on the big screen, many are also looking forward to seeing Pathaan’s cameo in the film. Tiger 3’s shows will start from 7 am across the country on November 12.
