The second edition of the TATA Women’s Premier League is just around the corner with its auction taking place on December 9 in Mumbai. The teams will have to manage their purses effectively to come out with a balanced squad at the end of the event.
The 2024 WPL auction will see some of the finest national and international talents being put up for grabs for the five participating teams. A total of 165 cricketers will be undergoing the auction gavel, including 104 Indian players and 61 from overseas, with 15 players featuring from associate nations. The excitement for the event is palpable as cricket enthusiasts and fans from all over the world will be geared up for the highly-anticipated bidding event.
Funds available for the five WPL 2024 teams
Let’s take a look at the various amounts remaining for each team and where they currently stand in terms of team strengths –

Combining all the five participating teams leave a total of 30 empty slots for the WPL auction which includes a total of nine spots remaining for overseas players. Out of the 165 available players, 56 cricketers are capped while 109 are uncapped.

This will undoubtedly add a blend of unpredictability and surprise to the auction dynamics. Around 60 cricketers, including 21 overseas players have been retained across the five franchises that will be competing in the WPL 2024.

Whereas a total of 29 players were released from their squads.
Only Deandra Dottin from the West Indies and Australia’s Kim Garth have set themselves at a base price of Rs 50 lakh. Gujarat Giants have the biggest salary cap available with Rs 5.95 crore in their purse. On the flip side of things, Mumbai Indians will be heading into the auction with the smallest purse of Rs 2.1 crore at its disposal.
The second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) format will follow a similar format to the Indian Premier League (IPL). The matches might be played across the cities of Mumbai and Bengaluru. In the first edition of the tournament earlier this year, all matches were played between March 4 and 26 at the DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium.
