As many as 16 flights were delayed due to dense fog in Delhi early Saturday morning, officials said. According to Delhi Airport’s Flight Information Display System, the cancelled flights included five domestic and 11 international.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the minimum temperature at Palam, near the airport, was recorded at 14 degree Celsius as a thick fog engulfed the city.

As mercury dropped, many were seen huddling around bonfires, others took refuge at a night shelter at AIIMS in the national capital.

There is no official confirmation from the Ministry of Railways in connection to the delay of trains due to the fog in Delhi yet.

The air quality index (AQI) in the national capital, on the other hand, was recorded under ‘severe’ category at 447, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said.

The Centre on Friday re-invoked the third stage of its anti-pollution measures in Delhi in view of the deteriorating air quality. This means non-essential construction work as well as plying of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi-NCR are banned.
