Festive Hiring Surge: Gig Workers To Grow By 25%; Here's What Jobseekers Must Know

In anticipation of the upcoming festive season, Awign, a work-as-a-service platform, shared in a report that businesses are gearing up for the festive surge in demand. It observed a noteworthy uptick in the requirement of gig workers for work fulfilment from major players across various sectors.

Awign predicted that during this festive season, there will be a significant increase in the demand for gig workers compared to the previous year’s festive period, marking a new milestone in festive arrangements. While more than 1.5 million tasks were executed between September and December last year, Awign anticipated handling over 2.5 million tasks this festive season.

With an eye on the months ahead, Awign has also noted a discernible surge in demand coming from prominent players in the e-commerce, BFSI, and FMCG/CD sectors. Companies are reaching out for fulfilment of business operations such as seller and merchant onboarding, seller audits, catalogue operations, and retail activation among others.

Awign has projected a 25% quarter-on-quarter growth projection considering consumer demand in the festive period.

Rohit Gupta, senior vice president- demand, Awign, said, “With the anticipation of increased consumer spending during the festive season, businesses begin their preparations well in advance to scale up their operations before the festivities begin. This proactive approach aims to improve brand visibility, expand customer outreach, and enhance overall customer experience.”

“Given the temporary nature of these requirements, the gig model emerges as the preferred choice for companies. We are currently witnessing a surge in demand from industry leaders across various sectors and are predicting a 25% quarter-on-quarter growth in response to this trend,” Gupta added.

The report highlighted that gig economy offers an agile solution that empowers enterprises to seamlessly adjust their business operations according to specific demands. This flexible paradigm enables businesses to address seasonal surges in demand without the necessity of recruitment, resource management, or training efforts, it added.

In another report by TeamLease around the festive season, the BFSI sector was found to be witnessing a remarkable surge in credit card sales, personal finance, retail insurance driven by increased consumer spending and confidence in the economy. This increased activity is anticipated to generate approximately 50,000 temporary jobs in the second half of 2023, as BFSI firms are set to increase their workforce to meet the surge in finance products.
