The “watershed” India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, a “visionary” Delhi Declaration, full membership for the African Union in G20, taking the lead in the Global Biofuels Alliance, and championing DPI and ‘Mission LiFE’: the BJP hailed these as the major achievements of India’s G20 presidency under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The parliamentary board of the ruling party, its highest decision making body, on Wednesday passed a resolution congratulating the prime minister for success in hosting the G20 Leaders Summit on September 9 and 10.
According to the BJP resolution, the G20 summit “stands as a monumental chapter in India’s diplomatic annals”, in how it brought the world together on a wide range of issues from economics to geopolitics to technology. The party said India’s G20 presidency will always be celebrated as a “People’s G20” as it was spread over 60 cities playing host to 200 meetings and a participation of 1.5 crore citizens.
“We, BJP ‘karyakartas’, extend our deepest appreciation and warm congratulations to Prime Minister (Shri) Narendra Modi and the Government of India for the successful G20 summit held in New Delhi on 9th-10th September, 2023. We note with great pride the impeccable leadership and unwavering commitment showcased by PM Modi at the summit…” the BJP resolution stated.
Here are the five major achievements of the G20 summit, as highlighted by the BJP resolution:
- IMEEC: The resolution said the “birth of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor”, or the IMEEC, was a “watershed moment for the world”. “It will bring together different nations, combining their strengths towards improving the lives of people. We compliment PM Modi on playing a pivotal role in conceiving this corridor,” it stated.
- Delhi Declaration: The G20 Leaders Declaration, which was adopted with full consensus, is a testament to foresight acting as a guiding beacon for our times and beyond, the resolution said.
- African Union’s membership: The resolution stated that the G20 under India’s presidency will be remembered by the coming generations for the inclusion of the African Union into the grouping, which is in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision to “ensure that the Global South has strong representation in such bodies”. “The inclusion of the African Union in the G20 has been met with great appreciation, especially by all those who are passionate about serving those on the margins of the global conversation on development,” it stated.
- Global Biofuels Alliance: The resolution also lauded India taking the lead in the Global Biofuels Alliance, “which will go a long way in furthering sustainability”.
- DPI and ‘Mission LiFE’: The resolution congratulated the PM on championing India’s digital public infrastructure (DPI) and ‘Mission LiFE’, which will be “guiding factors for policymakers…”. The BJP congratulated PM Modi for showcasing to the world a human-centric model of development, moving beyond the conventional GDP-focused growth trajectory taken in the previous years.
“We are delighted to note the level of participation witnessed – it was both unparalleled and unprecedented, resonating with the world’s affirmation of India’s capabilities and visionary approach. It also shows the world’s recognition and confidence in India’s potential and Prime Minister Modi’s dynamic leadership,” the resolution stated.
All in all, the BJP said, the G20 hosted by India has “filled the heart of every Indian with a profound sense of pride”.
Earlier in the evening, PM Modi got a rousing welcome at the BJP headquarters as he arrived for the central election committee meeting. Members, including union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh and party president JP Nadda, lined up at the party office to receive Modi who was showered with flower petals by the cheering supporters gathered there in large numbers.
This was the PM’s first visit to the BJP headquarters after the G20 summit, which is being seen as a success with his leadership drawing praise from world leaders.
