Two IPL franchises have made a last-minute trade as the deadline for player retention approaches. All 10 teams will release the list of retained and released players on November 26, Saturday, which is the last date allotted by the BCCI. The mini-auctions will be held on December 19 in Dubai.
According to Cricbuzz, SunRisers Hyderabad have decided to trade Delhi-based all-rounder Mayank Dagar to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Shahbaz Ahmed. However, the franchises haven’t confirmed the news as of yet. The former was acquired by SRH for Rs 1.8 crore last year while Ahmed bagged a deal worth Rs 2.4 crore in the 2022 mega auctions.
Dagar played three games for SRH in IPL 2023 but failed to make any noteworthy contribution. He picked up just one wicket with a below-par average of 83. Shahbaz, on the other hand, played 10 games for RCB earlier this year without reaping much success. He scored 42 runs in the entire season and picked up just 1 wicket.
RCB likely to release Wanindu Hasaranga
The report further stated that the RCB might exclude star Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and medium-pacer Harshal Patel, adding that the information wasn’t ‘independently verified’.
Punjab Kings may part ways with Sam Curran
Punjab Kings spent a whopping sum of Rs INR 18.5 crore, becoming the most expensive player in IPL history. But his return to IPL 2023 wasn’t as expected. He managed to pick just 10 wickets in 14 games at an economy of over ten. He contributed 276 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 136, averaging over 27.
If Punjab release Curran ahead of the mini-auction, they will have a surplus of Rs 18.5 crore, entering the auction with a purse of more than Rs 21 crore.
World Cup stars in focus
According to ESPN Cricinfo, the likes of Travis Head, Rachin Ravindra, Gerald Coetzee and Azmatullah Omarzai are likely to cause a steer in the mini-auction next month. At the same time, the franchises would be keen to bid for players like Mitchell Starc, Chris Woakes and Pat Cummins.
