Sweet Sound of Success Echoes in Anant Ambani’s Vantara As Palm Cockatoo 'Luna' Gets Cured
Luna's beak, once damaged and fragile, is now as strong as ever and a testament to her resilience and care she received at Vantara

Among the scores of animals, reptiles and birds rescued from unsafe situations and brought to Anant Ambani’s Vantara over the past few years was a palm cockatoo, Luna, who suffered a serious injury to her upper beak.

Despite her best efforts, the wound became infected, leading to a painful condition known as beak rot. Luna’s once strong and sturdy beak began to deteriorate, making it difficult for her to eat and causing her to lose weight rapidly.

Concerned about Luna’s health, the wildlife veterinary rescue team decided to intervene. They carefully restrained Luna and brought her to their rehabilitation centre. There, under the gentle care of the veterinarians, Luna was prepared for a life-changing procedure.

Under the soft glow of the operating room lights, Luna was placed under gas anaesthesia. The skilled veterinarians delicately removed the necrotic material from Luna’s beak, cleaning the infection and preventing further damage. A sample was taken for a microbiological culture to ensure that Luna received the right treatment.

After the procedure, Luna was kept under observation and given plenty of rest and nutritious food. Slowly but steadily, Luna began to regain her strength. Her beak started to heal, and soon she was able to eat without pain.

With each passing day, Luna grew stronger and more vibrant. Her beak, once damaged and fragile, is now as strong as ever and a testament to her resilience and care she received. As Luna spread her wings and soared back into the forest, her melodious calls filled the air, a joyful song of survival and triumph.

Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation on Monday announced the launch of their Vantara (Star of the Forest) programme, an umbrella initiative to focus on rescue, treatment, care and rehabilitation of injured, abused and threatened animals, both in India and abroad.

The brainchild of Ambani, Director on the boards of RIL and Reliance Foundation, Vantara is spread over 3,000 acres within the Green Belt of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex in Gujarat. It houses a Centre for Elephants with state-of-the-art shelters, scientifically designed day-and-night enclosures, hydrotherapy pools, water bodies and a large elephant jacuzzi for treating arthritis in elephants.

For other wild animals that have been deployed in circuses or congested zoos, a 650-acre Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre has been created, where animals from distressed and dangerous environments from India and all over the world are rescued and housed in state-of-the-art large enclosures and shelters.

Jamnagar, which houses Vantara, will also host the three-day pre-wedding bash for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant from March 1 to 3.
