Anurag Thakur’s comment in Parliament — ‘Jiski Jaat Ka Pata Nahin, Woh Ganna Ki Baat Karta Hai’ — has not been expunged from Parliament records and the same is visible in the Lok Sabha debate record on the website as well as Parliament’s social media channels, government sources told News18 on Wednesday.
The Congress has moved a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sharing the speech of Thakur containing the said comments, but sources said the motion would not stand any ground. The Lok Sabha debate records show that while some parts of Thakur’s speech (seven instances) were expunged, this particular portion to which the Congress objected is very much part of the records and was not expunged.
The prime minister had shared the link of the video put out by ‘Sansad TV’ with a comment — “This speech by my young and energetic colleague, Shri Anurag Thakur, is a must hear. A perfect mix of facts and humour, exposing the dirty politics of the INDI Alliance.” Sources said Thakur’s comments were very much in public domain.
Sources also said that Thakur had not named anyone as part of his comments so claiming privilege motion was not warranted. “Also, there are repeated instances of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asking the caste of many persons publicly, including journalists,” sources said.
Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said it was ironical that the Congress wanted the caste of everyone in the country to be asked as part of a caste census but had objections if Gandhi’s caste was asked. “The fact remains that Anurag Thakur did not name anyone in his speech,” Rijiju said. BJP’s Sambit Patra also did a press conference on the same.
Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said: “No one’s caste is asked in Parliament. This has been done deliberately to insult. Even the PM should not support such indecent things. He should know when and what things to defend. I strongly condemn such indecent things and PM Narendra Modi’s tweet in their support.”
