The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pardesh had in 2012 won 224 of these seats spread across 75 districts. It has tied-up with Congress this time in the contest against BJP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Shobha Singh Chauhan of BJP won from Bikapur seat by 94074 votes.

Bikapur is Muslim dominated constituency in Faizabad district. Two Bahubalis –sitting SP MLA Anand Sen Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party’s ex-MLA Jitendra Singh ‘Babloo’ - were contesting against each other. AIMIM has also fielded his candidate from here.

In the last assembly elections held in 2012, the Samajwadi Party (SP) defeated Bahujan Samaj Party (Bahujan Samaj Party) by a slim margin of just 1,868 votes to clinch this seat.

Elections to 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh were held over 7 phases from February 4 to March 8.

Exit polls had predicted the BJP emerging first in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance emerging second and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party emerging a distant third.
