BJP leader Sambit Patra on Monday landed in a controversy over his “Lord Jagannath is a bhakt of PM Narendra Modi”, drawing condemnation from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress. However, the BJP candidate from Odisha’s Puri seat later clarified that it was a slip of tongue and asked his rivals not to make an issue out of a nonexistent issue.

This has hurt the sentiments and demeaned the faith of crores of Jagannatha bhaktas and Odias across the world, he said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
