New Delhi: BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi broke down at the central hall of Parliament on Tuesday while addressing his party members and said he revered the Bharatiya Janata Party like his mother.
"Advaniji thanked me for doing the party a huge favour by helping in its spectacular win. I want to say, can a son ever do his mother a favour? BJP is my mother, and as a son, I only want to serve my mother," Modi said breaking down and taking a moment to compose himself as he was offered a handkerchief and a glass of water.
His voice breaking, Modi said what the party has achieved is a result of the struggles of five generations.
Modi, whose slogan 'sabka saath, sabka vikas' has caught on, said he is optimistic by nature; "it's in my DNA." He added that this is the first time a government has been formed that is led by people born in Independent India.
"We didn't get a chance to fight for this country's freedom, but we have got the chance to live for this country. If there was a fractured mandate then you could have said its anti-establishment vote but full majority for BJP means people voted for hope," he said.
