Centre uncertain about passing changes in Juvenile Justice Act in current session

New Delhi: The amended Juvenile Justice Act could be sent to Parliament Standing Committee.

After the Cabinet cleared the move to amend the Juvenile Justice Act on Wednesday allowing magistrates the power to decide if juveniles above the age of 16 who are involved in heinous crimes like rape and murder should be sent to a correction facility or tried as adults by a regular court; the Woman and Child Development Ministry is trying to introduce the amended Bill in this session of Parliament.

The Centre is, however, unsure if the amended Juvenile Justice Act can be passed in this session.

The Centre is also open to making changes in the Insurance Bill that hikes FDI to 49% and is in touch with the opposition.

Meanwhile, after Congress demanded a discussion on the rising incidences of communal violence - a discussion is scheduled to take place in Lok Sabha on Thursday.
