New Delhi: Just minutes after Congress said that party Vice President Rahul Gandhi at the best will be made the face of the 2014 poll campaign, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a jibe at the Lok Sabha MP from Amethi saying that if he was projected the PM nominee then there would be comparisons between Gujarat strongman Narendra Modi and him.
"Congress avoided Rahul as its PM face as it did not want Rahul as a face against Modi. Congress knows it is going to be defeated badly in the general elections. Rahul Gandhi is no match for Narendra Modi," BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
BJP chief Rajnath Singh too stepped up the attack on the Congress for not projecting Rahul as its PM nominee. "It is clear that Modi is the most popular leader, Modi's passage to PM post is already clear, whether Congress projects Rahul or not," Rajnath said.
"I think its the recognition of reality, since Congress knows they wont form the government so why announce a potential leader for the top post," said senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley.
Meanwhile, despite much hullabaloo, after the CWC meet the Congress Party stopped short of naming Rahul Gandhi as its prime ministerial candidate.
