Agartala: Opposition Congress in Tripura suffered a jolt as three of its front ranking leaders Wednesday reached Kolkata to join Trinamool Congress.
Former Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Surajit Datta, former Leader of Opposition Jawhar Saha and former minister Ratan Cahkraborty reached Kolkata Wednesday afternoon to meet Trinamool Supremo and Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee.
"Our meeting with Didi is scheduled to be held tomorrow.
Surajit Datta and Jawhar Saha also arrived in Kolkata to meet her," Chakraborty told PTI here over phone from Kolkata.
The Working President of Trinamool Congress in Tripura Nitai Chowdhury said, "the three leaders will meet Didi in her Kalighat residence tomorrow evening and before that they would meet other leaders including party General Secretary Mukul Roy today."
Chowdhury said, after the talks, TMC would organise a series of public meetings in Agartala and other parts of the state.
"Not only Congress leaders and activists would join TMC, but leaders and supporters of ruling CPI-M and Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) would also join the party," he said.
"At least 50,000 activists and leaders would join our party and we would field candidates in the Lok Sabha elections in both the seats in Tripura," Chowdhury added.
TPCC President Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl said those who had lost party posts were joining other party. Their absence would not be felt in the party, he said.
