Election 2019 LIVE: Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu today slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “touching the heights of absurdity” by claiming that TMC’s 40 MLAs were in touch with him. “Betraying the spirit of democracy, belittling the office of a Prime Minister, and touching the height of absurdity, the PM of India stooped so low and claimed that 40 Trinamul Congress MLAs are in touch with him. This is nothing but horse trading, that too, when the election process is on and the model code of conduct is in force. The Election Commission of India shall immediately and suo-motu take cognizance of these shameful remarks by the Prime Minister and initiate action against him,” he tweeted.
Making a sensational claim in the middle of the general election, PM Modi said 40 TMC MLAs were in touch with him and will desert their party once the BJP wins the poll.
Kerala Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena has confirmed that CPM panchayat member’s fake vote was cast in Kannur on April 23, the third phase of polling. A CCTV footage of people voting multiple times in the Pilathara booth of Payyannur was aired by television channels recently. A woman was seen wiping the indelible ink on her index finger immediately after it was marked. Later, she was seen casting her vote for the second time. The video was released by the UDF, accusing the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) of resorting to bogus voting fearing defeat.
The Election Commission has sent a notice to Union minister Giriraj Singh for his controversial and polarising comments at an election rally. The veteran BJP leader, who has been pitched against former student leader Kanhaiya Kumar from Begusarai, said, “I would like to say, Giriraj Singh’s ancestors died and were cremated. The Supreme Court has accepted to grant an urgent hearing to Congress MP Sushmita Dev on the Election Commission of India delaying action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah for alleged poll code violations. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said it would hear the petition on Tuesday after Dev cited eight Model Code of Conduct violations by Modi and Shah.
