Srinagar: Former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Friday dared the Narendra Modi government to retrieve Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), and taunted if it was India’s “personal property to be inherited”.

“Kya yeh tumare baap ka hai (Is this your forefathers property)?” Abdullah asked while referring to Parliament’s standing resolution on PoK. He was addressing a function in Chenab Valley, in the presence of his son and former state CM Omar Abdullah.

“PoK is presently under Pakistan occupation. It is not the personal property of India so that it could make a claim over it like an inherited property of forefathers,” Abdullah said.

“Pakistan is one of the stakeholders (of the Kashmir issue) which even the government of India has accepted. There was a resolution on this, which says that POK is the part of India,” he said, adding that the Government of India will have no option but to start talks with Pakistan so that the “atrocities through which people of Jammu and Kashmir are undergoing will come to an end.”

Abdullah, also a former Union minister in the previous UPA regime, said that GoI has no guts to retrieve back the PoK from Pakistan and that neither has Pakistan any guts to snatch Kashmir from India. But caught between them the innocent people of Kashmir are suffering, he said.

Farooq also hit at Prime Minister Modi for making his mother stand in queue for exchange of money. He said that a good son sacrifices everything so that his mother could not feel any pain or suffer. He said that Modi should apologize to the people for the inconvenience through which they were suffering due his (Modi) decision of demonetization.

In another veiled reference, the National Conference leader said that those who did not get married cannot understand that it is not possible for parents to make wedding arrangements of their daughters for Rs. 2.50 lakh.
