New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy has said that General Elections are likely to be held between the mid April and mid May.

There have been speculations that the Lok Sabha elections may be brought forward after the Assembly results of the five states - Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram - are declared on Monday.

The voting began on November 14 in Chhattisgarh and ended on December 4 in Jaipur.

Gopalaswamy said in all the five states, photo electoral roll was an important exercise. He also added that distribution of cash and liquor in elections is a worrying trend.

Nearly 66 per cent of the 9.8 crore voters in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh exercised their franchise.
