Governance too important to be left to govt: CAG
When asked if he had political ambitions, the CAG asked back if there's anything wrong with having those.

Mumbai: Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai on Friday took a potshot at the government, saying the governance in these days has become too important to be left to the government, even as he virtually called ministers, MPs and MLAs typical bullies.

Speaking in Mumbai, Rai said, "Governance has become too important in today's time to be left to the government alone...There are many stakeholders."

He also attacked the government over its failure to tackle recent protests in the capital, saying, "The government was taken by surprise by middle class activism. They are not used to spontaneous crowds but paid crowds for rallies."

When asked if he had political ambitions, the Comptroller and Auditor General said if there is anything wrong with having those. He, however, later joked about it.

Rai further said that the CAG would audit defence purchases, including the tainted AgustaWestland chopper deal, adding that Aadhar card, which has incurred huge expenses, would also be audited by his office.
