Kochi: With tempers running high in Kerala and Tamil Nadu over the Mullaperiyar dam issue, Kerala Congress(M) on Saturday demanded immediate intervention of the Centre to resolve the issue and said party MP, Jose K Mani, will stage a fast before Parliament on Monday.
Kerala Congress (M) Chairman and Revenue Minister, KM Mani, told reporters in Kochi that while Jose K Mani will stage a fast in front of Parliament, Idukki MLA, Roshy Augustine will be staging a fast before the state assembly in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
Party workers in Idukki, Kottayam, Pathnamthitta, Alapuzha and Ernakulam will be observing fast at the district headquarters, he said.
"Why should Tamil Nadu object to a new dam?", he asked adding Kerala has never said it would not give water to Tamil Nadu if a new dam was built.
"Even if a new dam is built, not a drop of water to Tamil Nadu will be reduced," he said.
The Kerala Congress (M) is a constituent in the Congress-led UDF government in the state.
