New Delhi: With reports of the Congress undergoing an overhaul in Monday's CWC meet, party sources have told IBNLive that many party leaders will follow suit if Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi resign from their respective posts.
Haryana is amongst the states where the Congress faced rout as the party won just one Lok Sabha MPs seat down eight from 2009. Sources in Haryana Congress say state party President Ashok Tanwar will step down from the party post taking moral responsibility of the party's poll debacle.
It is also being reported that former Union Minister Kumari Selja will be appointed as the new Haryana Congress President. The leader who represented Haryana's Ambala in the Lok Sabha for over a decade was anointed to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year. Kumari was the Union Minister for Social Jusice & Empowerment during Congress-led UPA regime.
Tanwar is facing the ire of party leadership after he lost the Sirsa seat to Indian National Lok Dal's Charanjeet Singh Rori by a margin of 1.1 lakh votes. He was the sitting MP from Sirsa and was elected the party's state president in January 2014 as a part of Rahul's initiative to infuse young blood into party. He had replaced 73-year-old Phool Chand Mullana, a Dalit leader.
Congress suffered a huge blow in Haryana in the Lok Sabha elections as it lost nine Lok Sabha seats out of 10 in the state. Four-time MP Bhupinder Singh Bhadana, too, had to bite the dust at the hands of his BJP rival.
