New Delhi: At a time when the nation is perhaps hypnotised by Uttar Pradesh's poll dance, bar girls in Bihar are giving politicians a reason to indulge in some mud-slinging.
Bihar's ruling JD-U on Thursday objected to a show of firearms and "vulgar" dances by bar girls at a cultural function organised by Rajya Sabha MP Subhas Yadav, the brother-in-law of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.
"The bar girls from Mumbai and elsewhere presented 'phoohad' (vulgar) dances during the night-long cultural event organised by Yadav where his inebriated supporters even fired shots in the air, terrorising local people," PTI quoted JD-U spokesman Shivanand Tiwari as saying.
"This is a serious offence and police should initiate action against the MP for trying to breach the peace," he was further quoted.
Tiwari added that a similar dance show was organised by Subhash's elder brother and Lok Sabha MP Sadhu Yadav on the occasion of Ram Navmi.
Reacting to the objections raised, IG (Patna Zone) Rajvardhan Sharma said such private functions were common in Bihar.
He pointed out that the police could take any action on the display of firearms only if somebody filed a formal complaint about a threat to his life or a demand for money to organise such an event.
