New Delhi: The BJP on Sunday said that Amethi should be ready for a surprise in the general elections. "Situation is ripe for a strong anti-incumbency against Rahul Gandhi. Tokenism is never a substitute for substantive performance," senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said.
The BJP leader exuded confidence that party will win the Amethi seat which has been a stronghold of the Gandhi family.
Alike BJP, Congress is too leaving no stone unturned to impress the electorate of Amethi. "Those who are contesting (against me) will run away after election. I have family relations with Amethi. I came here at the age of 12 years with my father (Rajiv Gandhi). I don't have political relation with this place," Rahul Gandhi had said.
AAP's Kumar Vishwas and BJP's Smriti Irani are also in the fray for the prestigious Amethi constituency.
Amethi parliamentary seat will go to polls May 7 and the campaigning will come to an end on Monday, when BJP prime ministerial pick Modi is scheduled to campaign for party candidate Smriti Irani, breaking the unsaid rule of keeping off a political rival's turf.
