Guwahati: Election Commissioner Navin Chawla on Monday reviewed electoral arrangements and security scenario in Assam with senior officials in Guwahati before Lok Sabha elections.
Chawla came on a two-day visit to Assam and met deputy commissioners, superintendents of police of the districts and representatives of political parties, including Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
AGP submitted a memorandum to Chawla alleging violation of model code of conduct by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi by accepting money from the tea companies in Kolkata.
He was also scheduled to meet Director General of Police GM Srivastava and Home Commissioner Rajiv Bora to discuss the law and order situation and issues relating to deployment of extra security forces in the state during Lok Sabha polls.
Chawla was also scheduled to meet Governor SC Mathur.
"I have come to review electoral arrangements in Assam and speak media after finishing all meetings," Chawla told waiting mediapersons after a meeting.
