After attending the crucial NDA meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence earlier in the day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his confidence about the ruling ‘Mahayuti’ winning the state assembly elections, scheduled to be conducted later this year.
In a conversation with CNN News18, the Maharashtra Chief Minister who faced a setback in the Lok Sabha elections, also claimed that the people of the state were misled by the opposition who played ‘vote-bank politics’.
Before attending the alliance meet, CM Shinde said that the National Democratic Alliance will form the next government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena has the same ideology and that Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu are also with them.
Shinde-led Shiv Sena won seven seats in the Lok Sabha and is seen as a crucial ally of the BJP at the centre.
Responding to questions on portfolios that the Shiv Sena would seek in the new Union Cabinet, he said, “I have not come here to demand anything. I have come here to support Modi ji.”
He said Modi has a plan for development of the country, which was implemented successfully over the past 10 years, while the opposition alliance had a single point agenda to remove Modi.
“The opposition had a single point agenda .. Modi Hatao (remove Modi). Those people (opposition) talked of banishing Modi, but the people of the country have stopped them from coming to power. People have shown them their place,” Shinde said.
The BJP managed to win nine Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, as against 22 won in the 2019 elections, while the Shinde-led Shiv Sena emerged victorious on seven seats and Ajit Pawar-led NCP could win one seat.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition had won 41 of the 48 seats in Maharashtra.
