Bharatiya Janata Party?s candidate for Kerala?s Palakkad Assembly seat, E Sreedharan, has lost to sitting MLA Shafi Parambil of Congress by nearly 7,403 votes. Sreedharan, popularly known as ?Metro Man,? joining the BJP was a much-celebrated event among the party lovers in and out of the state. BJP is also trailing in Nemom which was their only sitting seat. As per the latest trends, LDF-led Pinarayi Vijayan appears to be returning to power as counting to the 140-seat assembly is underway. LDF has so far secured 100 seats, while the UDF is looking at 40 seats (as of 3:45 pm).

In 2011, Shafi Parambil of INC won in this seat defeating K. K. Divakaran of CPIM by a margin of 7,403 votes which was 6.59% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 42.41% in 2011 in the seat.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, INC got the most votes in 56. Palakkad Assembly segment of Palakkad Lok Sabha constituency. CPIM won the Palakkad Parliament seat.
