Rape case: Karnataka ex-minister surrenders
A woman, Chandravathi, has lodged an FIR stating that former Karnataka Minister had raped her.

Shimoga: Former Karnataka Minister Hartalu Halappa, facing a rape charge, on Sunday appeared before a top official of the state CID which is investigating the case.

Halappa appeared before DIG (CID) KSR Charan Reddy for giving statement in the alleged rape case, police said.

Chandravathi, wife of Venkatesh Murthy, a financier had lodged an FIR, stating that Halappa had raped her some months ago at her house in Shimoga, the home district of Chief Minister BS Yedddyurappa.

Halappa had resigned as Minister of Food and Civil Supplies after a media report on the alleged incident. He has dismissed the charge as baseless and said it was a political ploy by his adversaries.

While there was speculation that Halappa had gone missing, Reddy stated he was not absconding according to them and would be called for recording of statement when needed.
