In a press release, the Samajwadi Party claimed that during the Mayawati regime a number of fake cases were lodged.

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh has issued directives to all the district magistrates and police chiefs to withdraw cases against party workers lodged in previous regimes.

"Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has given recognition to the devotion of party workers. All the district magistrates and SPs have been asked to expedite procedure to withdraw cases lodged against them," party spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury said in a press release issued in Lucknow.

He said that till now 3000 such instances, in which fake cases were lodged, had been identified.

"In previous BSP regime, the government worked in vindictive way and lodged a number of fake cases against SP workers to demoralise them," Chowdhury claimed.
