Gonda: Amidst conflicting signals from the Congress, Samajwadi Party on Friday said it is ready to give 12 of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh to the Congress to contest in the upcoming general elections.
"There are some leaders in the Congress who are making tall claims. We are ready to give them 12 seats which are justified in the electoral understanding for the upcoming
polls", Samajwadi Party President, Mulayam Singh Yadav told newspersons.
Yadav who was in Gonda to inaugurate the national wrestling competition, said that his party wanted to contest the coming elections with the Congress.
Rejecting the suggestion of friendly contests in some seats undesrtood to have been proposed by Congress General Secretary and incharge of party affairs in the state, Divijay Singh, SP General Secretary Amar Singh said a contest is never friendly.
"Either you fight or you are friends", he said, adding that both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi would have to keep the promise made by them.
The SP leader said there was need for the like-minded political parties to come together to save the state from the present dismal state of affairs.
