New Delhi: Team Anna on Friday said it will not campaign either in favour or against any party in the upcoming assembly polls but will tour the poll-bound states to draw attention of the people on real issues like corruption, land acquisition etc.
Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan said, "Winning elections are about money and muscle power, about caste and religion. During elections, important issues disappear. Issues are corruption, land acquisition, about democracy. Elections should not be about candidates but about policies and issues."
Key Team Anna Member Arvind Kejriwal said, "We will not campaign either in favour or against any party. In UP, especially, land acquisition and in other states caste and religion are issues, not the Lokpal. Will try and make the Lokpal and people's participation in law making poll issues."
Reacting on not getting permission to hold a rally in Haridwar, Kejriwal said, "In Haridwar, the returning officer has denied permission for a rally last night (Thursday). She's given permission in some hall. We will use that but it raises question marks on the fairness of the returning officer."
Team Anna, however, denied that it is anti-Congress. "It's wrong to say we have not been speaking against other parties. Even yesterday, we issued a statement on Gujarat government," said Prashant Bhushan.
Talking on the team's shift from anti-Congress stand, Kejriwal said, "Our fight is for a new changed system, not just governments."
"We will tell people about what each party did on the Lokpal," said Bhushan.
Talking on Anna Hazare's participation, Kejriwal said, "If Anna recovers, he has said, he'll join us. The Centre has betrayed the country and Parliament. On January 26, we will have a programme on re-building the Republic; it is likely that Anna might attend."
