Hyderabad: Allocation of portfolios to the newly sworn-in ministers triggered a major rebellion against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday night with one minister submitting his resignation and six more ministers mulling over tendering their resignation.
Minister of Tourism Vatti Vasanth Kumar submitted his resignation late Wednesday night because he was unhappy with his new portfolio. He was previously the minister for rural development.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that six other ministers might follow suit for the same reason.
According to sources, Komatireddi Venkat Reddy, who has been given the charge of Infrastructure and Investments in the new government, senior ministers Danam Nagender, Damodara Rajanarasimha and a couple of others who too feel they were relegated to insignificant (non-revenue generating) departments, are also said to be contemplating to resign.
A handful of ministers reportedly met at Vatti's residence late on Wednesday night to chalk out their strategy even as reports suggested that the Chief Minister was trying to persuade his Cabinet colleagues against resigning.
Some ministers, whom the CM spoke to following the resignation threat, were reportedly assured that the portfolios issue would be discussed on Thursday morning when the new Council of ministers holds its first meet.
A total of 39 ministers had sworn in on Wednesday in Andhra Pradesh's new Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy's cabinet.
