Kolkata: The BJP on Thursday denied Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's reported allegation that it was helping the CPM in the forthcoming West Bengal elections and accused her of being politically bankrupt.
"The BJP has not taken upon itself to help any party come to power. She (Mamata) is making such allegations because she is politically bankrupt," BJP state president Rahul Sinha told newsmen in Kolkata.
Recalling that Mamata had on many earlier occasions described the Congress as the CPM's 'B'-team in West Bengal, Sinha said that despite such allegations, she did not hesitate to have an electoral alliance with the party.
"When her party was in the NDA, she did not find any fault with the BJP. She is fickle-minded and inconsistent in her views," Sinha said of the former ally.
He said that his party had lined up a number of national leaders to campaign for its candidates in the elections. "This is because we want to offer an option to the people to vote for good governance."
Meanwhile, the party, which had earlier released a list of candidates for 281 of the 294 seats, on Thursday, released the names of its candidates for the remaining 13 seats, including Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's constituency Jadavpur where it has nominated film producer and director Dhananjoy Mukherjee.
Contending that candidates in 14 seats have been changed, Sinha said this was done because in some cases, they declined to contest because of health or domestic reasons. In some cases, more qualified candidates were found.
