Apple Watch Owners Get BAD News If They Haven’t Taken Warranty: Here’s Why
Apple Watch Owners Get BAD News If They Haven’t Taken Warranty: Here’s Why
Apple Watch models launched with the SpO2 tracker have been caught in a patent case which forces the company stop supporting repairs for them.

Apple has been hit with a major issue because of patent controversy with Apple Watch models. In fact, the company has been ordered to stop selling the latest Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 in the US, which is a big shock during the festive period. But the bad news doesn’t end there for Apple Watch enthusiasts and owners.

As per the terms of the ban, Apple Watch Series 6 or higher models will not be repaired if the product is not covered under warranty. So, if you’re using the following Apple Watch models, and you face issues like damage screen or any other part, Apple is not going to be able to help you.

Apple Watch Models Affected By Out-Of-Warranty Repair Issue

– Apple Watch Series 9

– Apple Watch Ultra

– Apple Watch Ultra 2

Apple has started reaching out to the affected owners and mentioned that the service will be unavailable for the whole duration of the Apple Watch ban in the US. The good news is that most Apple users, be it Watch, iPad, iPhone or Mac tend to go for the AppleCare Plus plan and if you had done for the aforementioned Apple Watch models, then you are covered for any repairs from the company.

Those who aren’t aware, the whole saga started earlier this month when the ITC claimed that Apple’s SpO2 blood-oxygen sensing in its latest Apple Watches infringes on patents owned by Masimo.

Since the first announcement, Apple has been hard-pressed to find a workaround—and that has included temporarily delaying the ban as it awaits an appeal. However, this was notably denied.

the iPhone maker is also attempting to make changes to the SpO2 sensing algorithm to appease regulators, but Masimo believes this won’t work, as the patents are hardware-based, and tweaking software won’t be effective.
